I warned White people in my book To Pimp a Nation that whatever they allow to happen to Black people will eventually happen to them. This was not my wish, nor was it a threat, rather it’s simply the nature of humans in a cutthroat competitive society. I won’t mention the tragedy as an example because I don’t want this article to seem like I’m calling the tragic murder of children, “karma.” I’m not. In my book I pointed out examples such as White people allowing crack cocaine to flood Black communities leading to methamphetamine flooding White neighborhoods. Also that law enforcement’s focus on Black drug usage while virtually ignoring Whites lead to an unchecked opioid crisis; America harshly punished Black drug dealers and users yet promoted doctors prescribing opioids to the White masses. Additionally I emphasized that White America turning a blind eye to police beating and killing Black people lead to us hearing more and more about White people being senselessly abused and murdered by police. If you allow something to happen to others it will soon happen to you because the negative behavior you allow becomes ingrained in the culture of our institutions.
The Karma I speak of regarding Uvalde, Texas is that of lying. America consented to police lying on Black people over and over again. They permitted them to murder without consequence by using the code phrase, “I feared for my life.” America allowed police to see objects such as wallets, iphones, Bibles, Video Game controllers and hairbrushes as guns instead of holding police officers accountable for their wild imaginations. This tacit approval by White America intimated that lying is acceptable. As a consequence, lying became an automatic feature of law enforcement. Police lie effortlessly to America today because White America allowed them to lie on Black people for so long in the past.
The police response to public demands for information about the tragic killing of 21 people including 19 precious children in Uvalde, Texas shows the chickens coming home to roost. Leadership, from the Governor down to the individual law enforcement departments, lied to America’s face. Government authorities effortlessly misled America as if it were second nature. Why? Because it is second nature for government to lie. They lied about the timeline, first saying they immediately breached the classroom “because we know as officers, every second’s a life.” They lied about an officer engaging the gunman before the gunman entered the school building. They lied about the shooter firing a gun outside prior to entering the school. They lied about a door being propped open. The Texas Government’s initial response was not forthcoming, rather it was that of law enforcement doing as they have grown accustomed to doing; working to form a preferable narrative while being cautious of what details might emerge. Fortunately for America their mischievous noise making triggered an avalanche of truth, which crushed their underhanded facade. Now, the department charged with investigating regular citizens is itself not cooperating with an investigation. Pete Arredondo, the Chief of the Uvalde School District’s Police Department, isn’t cooperating with the Department of Justice. Go figure! Police are behaving like a self-interested CEO trying to mitigate the consequences of wrongdoing rather than a good-faith Government agency with the citizens’ interest at heart. Government, from the Head of State down to the people on the ground charged with protecting citizens and being truthful witnesses, treated America like a Black man in a dark alley catching the wrath of White officers having a hard time at home; they lied by giving the public the version that served them best.
No one will ever know what truly happened at Robb Elementary School and even if leaders change course and give the public the honest truth, their deceitful initial response will cause the public to question the information’s truthfulness. The media at large are largely to blame too. America caught law enforcement doing exactly what Black people have been saying they’ve been doing for over a century. Rather than call it what it is, LIES, they refer to law enforcement cleaning up their story as “updates” or “shifts.” NO, they lied and got caught.
It is incumbent on White America to proactively put a stop to all the Government lying they knowingly and unknowingly permit. Calling out and punishing the myriad of lies told on Black people would eliminate the majority of this deplorable behavior and likely put the terrible officials who systematically lie in such a minority that they can no longer function in this way. White America allowing Government to cheat is White America asking Government to cheat on them.
